8 day rafting trip

This very popular tour will introduce you to the main waterway of Altai - the Katun river (in the Altai language it means "a mistress").

You will travel along the legendary Chuyskiy highway, famous for its winding roads, see the Seminskiy pass (2009m) and the Chicket-Aman pass, as if cut out in the rocks. Your memory will always keep exhilarating whitewater rafting experience, extremely fresh mountain air, ancient archeological monuments and landscapes of amazing valleys of the Katun river which keep changing all the time.

For those fond of fishing: on the Katun river you can catch lenok - the Siberian trout, taimen - they call it "Siberian salmon", grayling.

This route is appropriate for most everyone even without prior rafting experience. This tour should be your first choice if you want to get an idea what the Altai rivers are like.

 

Rafting

 

Tour description:

  • Day 1 Meeting at the airport, at the bus or railway station. A bus trip: Barnaul - Biysk - Gorno-Altaisk - Ust-Sema - Onguday - the confluence of the rivers B.Yaloman and Katun. Lunch at some point of the way. Staying overnight on the bank of the Katun River in a tent camp. A small evening party to get to know each other.

  • Day 2 Rafting to the mouth of the Ailagush river, passing the rapids (Class 3). Passing the rapids "Ilgumenskiy" (Class 4). Fishing.

  • Day 3 Rafting along the Kadrinskiy Canyon: narrow gorges, whirlpools, roller coaster waves, whitewater and rapids (Class 3-4). Staying overnight at the mouth of the Kuzyur River.

  • Day 4 A rest day. Banya! ( a very special Russian sauna)

  • Day 5 Rafting, passing the rapids "Shabash" (Class 4). Staying overnight at the mouth of the Kayancha River. Fishing. An excursion to petroglyphs (rock paintings).

  • Day 6 Rafting trip to the Edigan River. Passing the rapids (Class 3)

  • Day 7 Rafting to the mountain resort near Chemal, passing the rapids (Class 3)

  • Day 8 A bus trip from Chemal trough Gorno-Altaisk and Biysk, back to Barnaul. A night in a hotel.

The length of the tour:

  • By car or by bus - 500+ 350 km
  • Rafting - 150 km

Weather conditions:

An average temperature is between +14 - +30 degrees, rainfall is possible.

Personal equipment:

You will need the following clothing: an anorak and trousers that will keep out the wind and rain, a warm tracksuit, couple of t-shirts (shirts), special underwear to keep your body warm, two pairs of shoes (trainers, tennis shoes), a pair of shoes for rafting, three-four pairs of socks, a cap, sun glasses, a swimsuit, shorts, a personal hygiene kit, camera etc.

  • The price includes transportation, full board (three meals a day), rental fee of the sport equipment (rafts, paddles, life jackets, helmets, neoprene trousers, waterproof jackets and waterproof bags for your personal belongings) and camp (tents, tourist mats, sleeping bags, plates, spoons etc.) equipment, guides'  wages, medical insurance.

  • The price doesn't include staying in a hotel.

  • The minimum group must consist of 8 people.
